Breast Cancer Awareness – Kicking Breast Cancer to the Curb
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Waste Management Industry is Spreading the Word
According to the American Cancer Society, there will be 252,710 new cases of invasive breast cancer, 63,410 new cases of breast carcinoma in situ, and 40,610 breast cancer deaths in 2017. The National Breast Cancer Foundation reports that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Treatment for this terrible disease is most effective when discovered early through regular screenings, which makes public reminders to schedule screenings so important.
Most people are aware of breast cancer, but many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages. It’s also important to encourage others to do the same. While less than 1% of all breast cancers occur in men, men need to be checked for breast cancer too. In 2017, about 2,470 men are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer.
As October comes to a close, we want to highlight a few of the waste service providers who are raising awareness for breast cancer and helping fund research for a cure this month and all year long.
Gallegos Sanitation, Inc. – Think Pink Program

The GSI Think Pink Program supports local charitable organizations with funds raised to reduce the personal impacts on real people in their community. Participants in the program can choose to direct their donation to Hope Lives Breast Cancer Support Center or UCHealth Cancer Center.
Flood Brothers – Strides Against Breast Cancer
Events are held in cities across the country to raise awareness and funds for research. On Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, Flood Brothers provided pink garbage cans and their pink truck to the event attended by thousands.
Boon & Sons – Pink Cart Trashes Cancer
Boon & Sons offers their customers the ability to choose a pink cart. There is a one time $5 charge for the use of a Pink Cart, which goes to support the Society’s breast cancer awareness programs.
Fogle’s Septic Services – Fight for the Cure

During the month of October a percentage of Fogles pumping proceeds will be donated to help fight for the cure. Fogle’s also accepts donations throughout the year.
Casella – Casella Cares, Supporter of Making Strides

Metropolitan Recycling – For the Cure

Cal-Waste Recovery Systems – We Go Pink

Recology Yuba-Sutter – Pink October

Employee Owners at Recology Yuba-Sutter support the Geweke’s Caring for Women Foundation. The foundation provides financial assistance to women in the Yuba-Sutter community who are battling female forms of cancer

The Pink Carts are available to solid waste and recycling companies across North America with $5 of every purchase going towards American & Canadian Cancer Societies’ efforts to end breast cancer. Pink Carts has raised over $600,000 for American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
WCA – Pink Trucks and “Pink Shirt Fridays” year round

WCA has painted a variety of their trucks, roll-off containers, and commercial dumpsters pink. They have an ongoing program called “Pink Shirt Fridays” where they donate $4 to breast cancer research at MD Anderson for each employee who wears a pink shirt to work on the last Friday of every month. To date, WCA has raised over $78,000 for Breast Cancer Research.
Bingo Bins – Going Pink

Complete Kitchen Deconstruct After Fire Damage – Jacksonville FL

Many of the materials your home is made of, and the belongings inside, can catch fire and burn quite easily. Fires can ignite at any time, even when the risk seems negligible. An appliance’s motor can burn out, and sparks from stuck machinery inside can ignite items within close proximity. An extinguished match or cigarette tossed in a waste can and soon forgotten can smolder and ignite other items. Fires have been known to begin in several different ways.

Jones Building Demolition – St. Marys GA

A portion of the sidewalk along North and Main streets closest to the Jones Building will be affected by the construction for now, Gold said.
“We realize that this will have an effect on downtown parking and regret the inconvenience to our driving public, however we also rejoice in the beginning of this long awaited project,” she said.
A final budget of the project has not been determined, but the city will look closer at setting one as demolition starts this week, Peppers said. Staff should have the budget for city council members to approve in November, he said.
“We anticipate the project taking a maximum of 10 months,” he said.
When asked if there were any interested or planned tenants, Peppers said there were a few parties considering the future space.
“Lots of people are interested in the project, but the council has not determined the finished product yet,” he said.

Concrete Driveway Removal Jacksonville Beach

With an average cost of almost $4,000, replacing a damaged concrete driveway is an expensive but necessary project. Removing the old driveway yourself is often the best way to save on some of those costs if you’re comfortable with the level of physical effort and caution involved. This job is hard work but it’s usually something an experienced can accomplish if they’re comfortable using equipment like a jackhammer or skidsteer loader. Follow these steps to learn how to tear up your driveway without calling in a pro.
Removing a Concrete Driveway in a Safe way!
Does Your Driveway Really Need to Be Removed?
Luckily for your wallet, you might be able to repair the damage to your driveway without totally replacing it. Your driveway will need to be removed if: it has cracked and been repaired in the past, it currently has cracks that are wide or more than 2 inches deep, or it has sunken in places so that it no longer sits level.
If these factors aren’t in play, you can repair the damage without shelling out for a full driveway replacement. If it turns out your driveway really is too far gone to be repaired, use the following steps for removing a concrete driveway.
Step 1: Find Out Where Utility Lines Are Located
Before beginning any work, contact the city to have an inspector mark the location and depth of any utility lines that run under your driveway. This way, you can take extra precaution when tearing up the driveway in those areas. DO NOT skip this step: if you damage any utility lines, you’ll be the one to foot that hefty bill, not the city. 904-751-2177
