Arwood Waste is environmentally friendly and we are a GoGreen certified company. Minimizing environmental impact and giving back to the community by recycling, reusing or donating as much as possible is very important to us.

Responsible Disposal Matters

How to Prepare for Your Junk Removal Appointment

We value your time and want to make the junk removal process as easy as possible. Here are a few tips on preparing for your appointment.

Identify Your Junk

Make sure you know where all the junk items are currently located. Create a list and label them with notes or colored tape. If your items are spread over multiple rooms or floors, don’t worry about moving them. Our teams are trained to safely lift these items, and have special equipment to use when necessary. Heavy lifting is part of our junk removal service.

Group Small Items Together

If you have a lot of smaller items hanging around, gather them up in bags along with any loose rubbish. The process of gathering smaller items may help you identify larger items you don’t want to move yourself. This will also speed up the process when our team comes to haul your junk away.

Locate and Separate Hazardous Materials

Oil, solvents, batteries, paint, asbestos, medical waste and other hazardous materials need to be processed separately. These items require specific disposal methods to protect the environment and for the safety of our crew. Let us know if you have any of these items when you book your junk removal service so we can make the proper arrangements for their disposal. Label and separate them (if possible) from other junk items.

Environmentally Friendly Junk Disposal and Recycling

Arwood Waste is dedicated to reliable and responsible junk removal and disposal. We always aim to meet or exceed expectations and it’s this philosophy that drives us to not only follow applicable environmental requirements but to go beyond them and seek creative ways to reduce, reuse and recycle wherever we can. We pride ourselves on being accountable to the community by emphasizing environmental stewardship and corporate social responsibility. We support recycling education efforts like The Recycle Guide that provide information and resources for our communities. Between recycling and donations, we keep as much as 80% of your junk out of landfills.

Donations

Much of the materials we haul can be donated and reused, so we make sure to identify and donate any reusable furniture, electronics, clothing and home wares to local charities whenever possible. Even salvageable construction debris is donated to Habitat for Humanity. We feel it’s important to take care of our community, and one of the ways we do that is by making sure nothing goes to waste. Our socially responsible practices ensure your old junk is put to good use and kept out of landfills whenever possible.

Recycling

Recycling your junk matters! We make every effort to recycle items that cannot be salvaged and reused. Some of the materials we recycle include paper, electronics, metals, glass, concrete, construction debris, drywall and furniture. When items are dismantled for recycling, components that contain hazardous materials are removed and disposed of separately. By recycling your junk, we help save natural resources, reduce harvesting of new materials, prevent harmful chemicals from being released into the environment and reduce the growth of landfills.

Disposal

When items cannot be reused or recycled, we make sure they are disposed of properly. Many junk items contain chemicals such as lead, cadmium, and mercury that can be harmful to health and the environment if not disposed of properly. These chemicals are released into air and water when they are crushed in landfills and should never go in your regular household garbage. We take safe disposal of these harmful materials very seriously, which is why we meet all regulatory requirements, often adopting our own higher standards to protect the environment.

Committed to Responsible Disposal

Tips on removing junk in Jacksonville, FL

How much does junk removal service cost?

Rates are dependent upon where you live, the type of junk and amount of it. Junk removal companies typically have a minimum charge of $50 to $125 for coming out and picking up small loads, such as a single piece of furniture, a few bags of junk or a kitchen appliance.

Larger cleanups that require more manpower and labor will often run several hundred dollars or more depending upon the scale of the cleanup. Construction and demolition (C&D) debris cleanups typically cost more than a general household junk removal job.

The average cost ranges between $150 and $500, but large jobs (e.g., construction site cleanups, multiple) can run several thousand dollars.

Will they haul away asbestos or other hazardous debris?

Some do, but most cannot. The proper licensing is required to haul hazardous debris in most jurisdictions across the country. Always ask the junk hauler if they are licensed to accept hazardous materials anytime you need the following items hauled:

  • Refrigerators and air conditioners
  • Construction debris with asbestos or lead paint
  • Flammable liquids or explosive materials
  • Lead-acid batteries, such as a car battery
  • Household hazardous wastes

That does not mean that removing stucco siding is going to be quick process. In fact, removing stucco siding from a home is a long, tedious and labor-intensive project. Stucco is a very durable cement product that can last for over 50 years. It is not going to come off easily.

Safety Precautions

Before attempting to remove any of the stucco siding on your home, consider some safety precautions:

  • Remove all obstacles from the general area. Tripping over garbage and pieces of debris is a leading cause of injury on a job site.
  • Keep an eye out for falling debris. There is always an inherent danger of something falling on you. Stay aware of your surroundings.
  • Work with a friend. Removing stucco is hard work and requires quite a bit of elbow grease. Work with a friend to avoid over exertion or becoming so focused on your job that you forget your surroundings.

Needed Tools For Removing Stucco Siding

  • Circular saw with carbide blade
  • Pry bar
  • Hammer
  • Safety equipment (gloves, boots, eye protection, face mask)

First Cuts

Whether tackling a small section or large surface area, the first step in removing stucco siding is a small cut. Most people will want to get out the sledgehammer and start pounding away at the cement product. This is the last thing you should do. In fact, you should leave the sledgehammer in the garage for this project.

Start by using a chisel and hammer to knock off any loose stucco siding that you may see in the general area. This goes for stucco above your head. When prying off large sections of stucco, and the following layer of stucco lath, simply jar the pieces loose and let them fall.

Harder Blows

After scraping off the loose stucco, you can begin to land harder blows to the surface with the hammer. This can loosen the stucco from the home surface and cause some cracks.

Pry Larger Sections Off

As you begin to see cracks and pieces falling off, you can start using the pry bar or a shovel to begin taking off larger sections.

  • Important Note – Before getting too carried away with the demolition of stucco, you must remember that it is a work area. Large chunks can be very heavy and even cause other sections to fall.

As you work, lifting off these bigger sections, remove them immediately from the area. Do not leave lying on the ground as an obstacle to trip over.

Building Demolition Completed for Waste Pro of Jacksonville

March 6, 2017

Demolition Completed located at 127 Willow Branch St.

The property was leveled and most of the waste was recycled. The project consisted of a Concrete structure, a 4oft. storage box and miscellaneous scrap metal. The project was completed within three days.

Building Demolition Process

Different steps are involved in the process of demolition of building structures which are:

  1. Surveying
  2. Removal of hazardous materials
  3. Preparation of plan
  4. Safety measures

Surveying of Buildings for Demolition

Surveying means study of different parameters of the structure and its surroundings. There are two types of surveying are mainly conducted. They are

  1. Building surveying
  2. Structural surveying

1. Building Surveying

In survey of buildings for demolition, following process are carried out:

  • Types of construction material used
  • Usage of building prior and present during demolition.
  • The presence of wastewater, hazardous materials, matters arising from toxic chemicals, flammable or explosive and radioactive materials, etc.
  • Drainage conditions and possible problems on water   pollution, flooding and erosion.
  • Shared facilities with adjoining building, including common staircases, partition walls.
  • Adjoining pedestrian and vehicular traffic conditions
  • The sensitivity of neighborhood with respect to noise, dust, vibration and traffic impact.

2. Structural Surveying

In structural survey, following process are involved in demolition:

  • The method of construction
  • The structural system and structural conditions of basements, underground tanks or underground vaults.
  • The original structural system employed in the design.
  • The condition of the building.

Removal of Hazardous Materials

If hazardous materials like asbestos minerals, petroleum contamination, and radioactive metals are found in the investigation of site for demolition. Specialized personals are called for the removal of the hazardous materials from the site prior to the demolition of structure.

Preparation of Demolition Plan for Structures

A detailed demolition plan is made which illustrates the different process involved and they are:

Project completed for Waste Pro of Jackosnville

2940 Strickland St
Jacksonville, FL 32254

 Demolition completed in Lackawanna Neighborhood

Lackawanna originally saw growth as a streetcar suburb that was an attractive residential location for workers employed at the nearby massive Seaboard Air Line Shops and Terminals.Although the streetcar line and railroad shops are long gone, the community that owes its existence to them still lives on.
The date of the first West Jax Yard has to be in post Civil War Florida boom. 1880’s. Seaboard bought into the F&J and also the line from Union Station to Chattahoochee about 1888. The shops date from the 1890’s to 1920 when the 3rd and final Union Station opened. The facility employed as many as 1,000 workers in 1909.

The diesel shops were built in the WWII years. By the end of the war, a new 165 foot turntable was in place at the steam shops. The yards were greatly increased both in the circa “teens” and again in the late “40’s”. Seaboard was already pioneering their demise. The Gross Cut-Off to Callahan and Baldwin were taking more and more freight through without another sort.

The shops became the home for almost all of the SEABOARD “ALCO” (American Locomotive Works) and “BALDWIN” diesels. The last of these, Alco, quit the business starting with a sell to Worthington Corp in 1964, they built their last diesels in the early 70’s. They were then folded into Studebaker-Worthington subsidiary MONTREAL loco works. But MLW, didn’t get any US orders from SCL.

As a specialist in Alco and Baldwin locomotives, WEST JAX did it all. These engines had one other thing that EMD (GM), or GE diesels lacked. Pound for pound it was said they could pull the socks off an equal power locomotive from the latter builders. They could also track better, and SCL wasn’t known for good track – sadly CSX still suffers from this mind set. Hundreds of miles of branchlines in your home town area were — HORRIBLE. But an old Alco would somehow dance along the rails with the train, another locomotive would be up to the foot plates in dirt.

When Rice Yard opened in Waycross, it was really Jacksonville’s yard moved to a less congested junction. That move coupled with massive post regulation abandonment’s spelled the end of West Jax. Remember railyards are train, time AND money killers.

WEST JAX is now a superfund site, home of CSX security – Railroad Police, train dispatching, and the company’s office train cars.

Relocation Demolition These mitigation options can be more effective than other mitigation methods because they provide the opportunity to relocate or rebuild in an area outside of the floodplain. If rebuilding outside the floodplain is not possible, then moving to less vulnerable locations (i.e., from Zone V to a Zone A) on the same property or on a new property is also an option. If neither rebuilding outside the floodplain or in a less vulnerable location is feasible, elevation may be your best option. Elevation is described in detail in Chapter 5. This chapter addresses relocation outside of the floodplain.

Ponte Vedra Beach Demolition Services

February 27, 2017

Mobile Home Demolition Completed at 143 N. Roscoe Blvd.

Mobile Home Demolition involves the complete removal of everything on the job sites with the exception of concrete pads and driveways which are in reasonable condition and can be utilized by the new homeowner. We completed the project for Albin Clark a Ponte Vedra resident.

The old home is crushed using an excavator with a special attachment claw. The “I” beams are usually cut into pieces using an oxy/acetylene cutting torch. The concrete blocks and anchors are also removed from the site along with utility pipes electrical wires, air conditioning units and duct work.

Most of the debris will be crushed by a front end loader, trencher or powerful bobcat and placed into dumpsters. The average doublewide home will fill three to four 30 yard dumpsters.

Some materials may be recycled for future use or sold for scrap but that will be up to the demolition contractor who will be doing all of the work and will usually not make a concession against the contract cost.

This process usually takes longer, is more labor intensive and still involves the cost of a machinery, dumpsters and landfill disposal fees.

Mobile Home Disposal and Removal to a Land Fill.

Mobile Home Demolition and RemovalThe most important consideration is that the old mobile home must be in good enough condition to allow transportation to the nearest landfill site. Once there it will be flipped on its side to allow the removal of the I beams, wheels and axles prior to crushing.

The setup crew will be needed to separate the sections and place them on wheels and axles. The old hitches will probably not be serviceable and new hitches will need to be purchased and welded to the frame prior to break down.

The home may need to be rolled/moved prior to hooking up the toter.

Escort cars and oversize load signs may be required for wider homes.

There are breakdown fees, axles and tires, transportation and disposal fees.

Mobile Home Demolition costs.

The method chosen will need to take into consideration time factors, the distance to the nearest landfill and financial position of the homeowner. Contracts need to specify the extent of the work and leave no doubt as to the responsibilities of the parties.

The cost of a mobile home demolition or disposal can and will vary widely.

To give you a rough idea of the demolition costs I will list the components of the job with an estimate of the cost in the State of Florida:

Arwood Waste

are literally like “peace out.” They know what’s coming for them. Many times, we don’t even need to operate. Just the fact that they see us arriving is enough for those building to come down (it’s a good thing they weren’t given any feet haha!)

Our company has been conducting total & partial demolitions for a great number of years in Kingsbay, Georgia and beyond. We have been rated as the #1 deconstruction company in the whole Atlanta metropolitan area. You can have a look at our reviews on our website and we can even provide you with phone numbers to past clients, whom you can contact yourself.

No project is too small for us. We got crews that specialize in residential demolition and other team members that focus on commercial and big building decommissioning and abatement.

Picture

Demolition Services We Offer

You will probably wonder “what parts of the demolition process will they cover?” –  “Will they also remove & cleanup all the debris?” The answers here are “everything” & “yes.”
We take full responsibility of a project from beginning to end. So we are going to be the ones in charge of taking the building down, removing all the asbestos and scattered building materials, and keeping the ground below it clean and in perfect shape.

So after the house/building demolition is completed, we will move on to concrete breakdown and removal. So after we have cut all the building materials in “removable pieces” we will conduct a full debris removal. By the end of the project, we will also have conducted a land leveling process to make sure the ground below is “qualified” for a new structure.

You don’t have to worry about a thing. Get on the phone with us, express your wish to us and some detail on the project. We will then arrange an appointment, in which not only will you receive a detailed demolition quote and bid, but you will also get ideas and advice from our top demolition consultants.

That’s right! We will be bringing the smartest knives in the drawer to the project and the brightest people in America, to handle your project. Our love for team work is probably the main thing that sets us apart and makes us the top demolition company in Woodbine, GA. We are your top demolition specialists!

Demolition Costs & Limited-Time Discounts

The greatest part of what we do (besides being fully professional and ensuring safety), is the fact that we offer top notch demolition procedures at the smallest cost possible. We don’t have a flat “per square” price that applies to everyone. We consider the building materials, the area in which it’s located and thus how easy it is to take it down but most importantly: we consider you.

That’s right! We want to make the whole process as convenient and affordable possible. That is why we give you free demolition quotes on your project. Get on the phone with us, and we will walk you step by step through the expenses you will need to consider for the project. This will help both parties: You will get an idea of what to expect (and the completion time frames) and we will know on our end with this demolition estimate how to organize our crew, create a plan of action and get working on sketching out the deconstruction process, step by step.
So giving you an idea of the way the project will run, will also give us an idea on things like: how many demolition trailers and asbestos removal tools will we need, how many demolition excavators are we going to use, what’s the number of construction workers required, what will be the pace of the project etc.

That’s the flexibility we have as a company in our industry, that allows things to move forward in a quick and safe pace without needing to jump over loops to get the job done. As soon as we get your trust and signal to start working on the target building (whether that by a home or commercial building) we are going to get right to it. Although we will have thorough and fully informative meetings, when it’s time to work we’ll work. We won’t chit chat on the phone, discussing about things that don’t matter or are mentioned just to chew up time and make us look busy. We are only going to be considered busy when on the sight and that’s our promise to you!

How Do We Compare To Others

Arwood Waste

Demolition, Southern Demolition, Green Circle Demolition, yawn. I’m pretty sure these guys do a decent job for their clients. But we’re? The Porsche of demolition services. If you want a demo company that pays attention to detail, and takes a building down in the most safe and sound way (without creating damage to nearby buildings) as opposed to Tommy the demolition man that doesn’t know where the heck the target building is and does a crappy job managing his crew and engineers, then you should definitely call us.

We are here to work for you and to ensure a professional, safe and affordable wrecking & cleanup process.

But anyone can toot their own horn right? That’s why we suggest you get in touch with the clients we were blessed to work with. I can see them now raising their hands in the background, wanting to vote us as the #1 Arwood demolition company in Georgia.

Old Barn Demolished in Hilliard Florida

February 15, 2017

The completion of a Barn being Demolished

Call for a Free Estimate 904-751-2177

Image result for barn demolition

Project located at 281070 Triggs Road

The demo and recycled barn was completed for Patrick Sawicki. The scope of work was to demolish and haul away an old barn. The Barn was not an Historic barn and it was located in Nassau County Florida

Most people don’t realize that there are significant expenses involved with taking down an old barn. We often get the phone calls of folks who want us to take down their barn, but they don’t want to spend any money.

That’s understandable, but the reality is that there are significant costs involved with taking down the barn.

The purpose of this article is to show you the actual costs that WE would incur if we were to come in and take down your 40×60 hip roof barn.  I think it is important to understand the costs before you bring someone in, or even if you are considering doing this yourself.

But isn’t there value in that wood?

There are many reasons why you might choose to tear down a barn. You may need to use the space for other purposes or the barn may be deteriorating and dangerous. You may even have decided to go into the barn demolition business. While tearing down an entire barn structure may seem daunting, it can be a manageable task if handled safely and methodically.

To safety and effectively demolish a barn you will need these essential tools.

Step 1: Salvage

Before you begin the demolition process assess if any part of it can be salvaged. Old barns might have antique iron fittings such as hinges and handles that may be worth a significant amount of money. If the wood is free of rot and damage, it could either be sold as reclaimed wood or used to build a new barn or structure.

Step 2: Work Backwards

Rather than just knocking your barn down, it is best to approach the job in the reverse order of how the barn was constructed. Start by removing the windows and doors. Using your screwdriver, remove all the hinges and other fittings.

Step 3: Floors

Using your hammer and pinch bar, remove the floorboards. Do this with care if the floor boards can be rescued.

Step 4: Walls and Roof

Now start to remove the internal walls and the roof. Once the roof has been removed, you will need to start removing the external walls. Leave the frame of the barn intact.

Step 5: Separate the Beam Structure

Attach a rope around one of the beams and tie the other end to a tractor or other piece of heavy machinery. As you drive forward the barn will be pulled down. Drive slowly so that you don’t cause a huge amount of damage to the beams, especially if you intend to re-use them in another project. Now remove the joists. These should just slide out. Using your chainsaw, start to cut the beams.

Step 6: Stock Assessment

Now that your barn is demolished you will need to tidy the area. Sort the wood into piles of what can be re-used and what can’t. Also, create a pile of any fixtures that can also be re-used. By sorting your reusable stock this way, you will be able to easily estimate the value of your wood and any other fittings that you intend to sell.

Step 7: Storage

You will need to find somewhere to store your stockpiles, especially any wood that can be salvaged. Once the larger pieces of wood have been stored, return to the demolition site and clear away all smaller pieces of debris as these can be hazardous, especially if they are sharp. You may have chosen to create a business demolishing barns and, if this is the case, clearing the demolition site will be a standard part of the job.

What is the value of old-growth barn timbers?

There’s no definitive answer to this question. The most accurate answer is – whatever a buyer is willing to pay. However, you can easily expect to get at least 5 times more for old-growth wood than you would for new wood of the same size.

What to look for

  • The most desirable woods fetch more. The species of wood that are the most valuable include, but are not limited to chestnut, walnut, hickory, and old-growth pine.
  • Axe-cut wood and hand-hewn timbers are most valuable. You can check your barn wood for signs of axe marks at either end of the timber. Check the entire length of the timbers for signs that is has been manufactured by hand.
  • Damage, wood rot, excessive nail holes and insects. These things will lower the value of the wood, or make it pretty much worthless if the entire timber is damaged.

How much does it cost to demolish a barn?

It depends upon the type of demolition. A total demolition using heavy machinery, such as excavators, is quick and relatively inexpensive. On the other hand, manually deconstructing the barn to salvage the old barn wood costs much more due to the increased labor and man hours required.

Luckily, the cost of barn deconstruction has dropped in recent years due to the fact there are so many demolition companies out there doing it. There are even companies exclusively doing barn deconstruction projects and nothing else.

Barn removal – Does it make financial sense?

If the barn is non-operational and serving no purpose on your property, removing it makes perfect financial sense. Here are three reasons why:

  • Insurance and liability reasons. Old, dilapidated barns are a liability on your property, so you pay higher insurance premiums because of this.
  • Eyesore = lower property value. An ugly barn drives down the value of a property because of poor curb appeal.
  • Value of barn wood + value of new space on your property. Selling salvaged barn wood can put money in your pockets. You’ll also get a large section of your property back to do whatever you’d like (e.g., plant a garden, install a swimming pool or build a garage/workshop).

Is there ever a situation where you shouldn’t demolish an old, nonfunctioning barn?

If the barn holds historic significance, such as it was somehow involved in the Civil War or other historic event, demolition isn’t the best approach. Preservation may be in order in this case. Demolishing the barn not only destroys a piece of history, but it could be illegal in some cities and states.

Visit your state and local websites, and your local library, and do a little digging to see how historically significant barns are handled. Find out the rules and regulations regarding demolition of old barns, processes, permits, preservation options and other information.

Learn more about this topic by referring to The Preservation of Historic Barns published over at the Technical Preservation Services division of the National Park Service website (www.nps.gov/tps).

Highlands History & Culture

Timucuan Indians inhabited this area before explorers and missionaries arrived from Spain. In 1562, approximately 150 settlers arrived from France, seeking freedom from religious persecution in their home country. In the 1820s, residents started referring to the city as Jacksonville in honor of Andrew Jackson. Developers eventually built the Turtle Creek neighborhood to meet the need for additional housing. Turtle Creek residents have access to the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, the Cummer Museum of Art and the Museum of Science and History. If you love art, visit Downtown Jacksonville or the Cork Arts District to view paintings, sculptures and other pieces created by local artists. Jacksonville hosts many annual events, including the River City Wine and Dine Extravaganza, Buckler’s Craft Fair, the Railroad Days Festival and the Jacksonville Beer and Food Festival. Jacksonville also plays host to the Northeast Florida Blueberry Festival each year.
